WHAT IS THIS TEACHER PLANNER?

Sunday night lesson planning has a way of expanding to fill the whole evening. You open five tabs, a curriculum document, and a group chat full of schedule changes, and somehow two hours later the actual plan is still in your head. This free teacher planner printable pulls the week back onto one page: Monday through Friday columns, with rows for Period or Class, the Lesson itself, Materials you need, and Homework or Notes. Print it, pencil in the week, and walk into Monday knowing exactly what happens when. This teacher planner printable is free to download – print as many copies as you like.

It is made for classroom teachers juggling multiple periods a day, but it works just as well for tutors, substitute teachers leaving clear plans, and student teachers who need to show a mentor what the week looks like. One sheet covers one teaching week. Keep a stack in your desk drawer and you have a term’s worth of plans that double as a record of what you actually taught.

The rows match how teachers really plan, not how software thinks they plan. You do not need a dropdown menu to write “fractions review” in the Lesson row and “whiteboard markers” in Materials. Paper is faster than any app for the ten-minute Sunday plan, and it never needs a software update in the middle of term.

If you homeschool rather than teach a classroom, our homeschool planner uses the same weekly-grid idea with subject rows instead of periods.

WHAT’S INSIDE THIS TEACHER PLANNER PRINTABLE

WEEKLY GRID, MONDAY TO FRIDAY

Five day columns give every weekday its own space. You see the whole teaching week at a glance, which makes it obvious when Thursday is overloaded with assessments or when Friday afternoon is free for the lab activity that needs setup time. Planning in week view also stops the daily re-planning trap where every morning starts with “wait, what was I doing today?”

PERIOD OR CLASS ROW

The first row labels which class or period each column entry belongs to. If you teach the same group all day, write the class name once and use the columns for time blocks. If you rotate through periods, each column can hold a different class. The row is deliberately unlabeled beyond “Period/Class” so block schedules, rotating timetables, and single-class days all fit.

LESSON ROW

The heart of the page. One or two lines per cell is all you need: the topic, the page numbers, the activity. “Photosynthesis diagram, p. 112” beats a paragraph every time. Keeping lessons terse means you will actually fill the sheet in, which is the entire point.

MATERIALS ROW

Write what you need to gather, print, or set up before each lesson: handouts, lab equipment, projector, craft supplies. Checking this row on Sunday night is what stops the Monday morning photocopier sprint. Many teachers circle anything that needs preparing the night before.

HOMEWORK AND NOTES ROW

The last row catches assigned homework, reminders to yourself, and notes after the lesson: what ran long, what confused them, what to reteach. Those after-lesson notes are gold when you teach the same unit next year.

HOW TO USE THIS TEACHER PLANNER PRINTABLE

  1. On Sunday evening, print one sheet and fill in fixed commitments first: assemblies, meetings, early dismissals. These shape everything else.
  2. Pencil in each day’s lessons, one or two lines per cell. Keep it brief and honest about timing.
  3. Check the Materials row and gather or list what needs preparing. Star anything that must be done the night before.
  4. Each morning, glance at the day’s column before students arrive. Knowing the sequence removes decision fatigue from your teaching day.
  5. During or after lessons, jot quick notes in the Homework/Notes row: what worked, what to change, who needs follow-up.
  6. File the sheet at week’s end. A term’s worth of these is a complete record of your teaching year and a head start on next year’s planning.

PRINTING TIPS

Print at “Actual size” or 100 percent scale so the grid cells stay roomy enough for handwriting. Standard 80 GSM copy paper is fine for a week’s planning. If you keep every week’s sheet as a teaching record, 100 GSM paper survives a binder and erases cleanly when plans change mid-week. Both A4 and US Letter versions are included, so use whichever fits your school printer. The black-and-white layout prints cleanly on any machine and photocopies sharply for sharing with a co-teacher or substitute.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this planner really free?

Yes. The PDF is free for personal use in both A4 and US Letter sizes. Print one per week for the whole school year.

I teach six periods a day with different classes. Will one page be enough?

The grid is designed for week-at-a-glance planning rather than minute-by-minute schedules. Most teachers use one sheet per week and write the period or class name in the first row. If you need more detail per period, print one sheet per day and use the columns as time blocks.

Can I use this as a substitute teacher plan?

Yes, and it is ideal for it. Fill in the week’s grid, attach it to your seating charts, and a substitute can see the whole week in one view. The Materials row tells them exactly what to gather.

Do you have other planners for teachers?

Yes. Our daily planner template is great for planning your own day around classes, the weekly meal planner simplifies weeknight dinners during busy terms, and the homeschool planner works for anyone teaching at home.
