WHAT IS THIS HOME MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST PRINTABLE?
Homes don’t break all at once. They break one skipped job at a time: the gutter nobody cleared, the filter nobody changed, the seal that quietly failed behind the washing machine. This home maintenance checklist printable puts the whole year on one page – the small jobs grouped by season, each with a box to tick when it’s done – so the house gets its care in teaspoons instead of emergency call-outs. It is free to download – print one a year and keep it where the toolbox lives.
It is for new homeowners discovering that nobody sends reminders anymore, and for long-time owners whose system currently lives in one person’s head. Renters use the light version too – alarms, filters and seals are worth tracking in any home. If your house runs on “we should probably look at that”, this page is the upgrade.
Maintenance is the unglamorous sibling of cleaning: our zone cleaning schedule keeps the inside of the house on rotation, while this checklist covers the house itself – the systems, seals and safety checks. Keep both on the same cupboard door and the whole building is managed.

WHAT’S INSIDE THIS HOME MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST PRINTABLE
SPRING JOBS
Five boxes for the season of waking the house up: test the smoke and CO alarms, service the air conditioning and clean its filters, clear the gutters and check the roof after winter, check the window seals, and deep-clean behind the big appliances. Spring is when winter’s damage is cheapest to fix.
SUMMER JOBS
The outdoor season: check outdoor taps and hoses for leaks, clean and oil the deck or patio, test the sprinklers, inspect the attic or loft for uninvited residents, and touch up exterior paint while the weather allows. Small leaks found in July are anecdotes; found in January, they’re renovations.
AUTUMN JOBS
The preparation season: service the heating before the first cold snap demands it, clear gutters and downpipes of the leaf fall, bleed the radiators, hunt down door and window draughts, and drain and store the garden hoses. Every autumn job is a winter emergency that doesn’t happen.
WINTER JOBS
The watchful season: insulate exposed pipes before the freeze, check the roof after every serious storm, test the alarms and keep torch batteries fresh, reseal bathroom and kitchen edges against the damp months, and service the fireplace or chimney if you burn. Winter’s list is short because autumn did the heavy lifting.
NOTES, COSTS & NEXT JOBS
A few lines for what each job cost, who did it, and what’s already queued for next year. A note like “boiler serviced Oct – due again next Oct” turns this year’s sheet into next year’s plan. Our car maintenance tracker runs exactly the same system for the other expensive machine you own.
HOW TO USE THIS HOME MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST PRINTABLE
- Print the checklist at the start of your year – January and September both work; pick the one your household actually treats as a beginning. Walk the house with it once, pen in hand, and tick anything already done.
- Work season by season, not page by page. When spring arrives, spring’s five boxes are the whole job. That is the design’s mercy: twenty small jobs a year become five per season, and five is a Saturday morning.
- Book the professional jobs early in their season. Heating engineers in September and AC technicians in April are available; in the first cold snap and the first heatwave, they are legends told by waiting lists.
- Tick each box the day the job is done, and note the cost in the notes lines. A year of costs tells you what the house actually charges – genuinely useful when you’re budgeting, renovating or selling.
- Photograph the finished sheet before you file it. If a warranty, an insurer or a buyer ever asks when something was serviced, the photo answers in seconds.
- Print a fresh home maintenance checklist printable each year and clip it in front of last year’s. The stack becomes the house’s service history – the document every buyer wishes existed and almost no seller has.
PRINTING TIPS
Print at “Actual size” or 100 percent scale – the sheet is made to live on a cupboard door or inside the utility closet, in sight for a whole year. Card stock, or a dry-erase sleeve for the boxes, makes one print last all four seasons. Both A4 and US Letter versions are included, and the black-and-white design prints cleanly on any home printer. When the spring box sends you indoors with a cloth, our spring cleaning checklist is the deep-clean companion for the same season.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I rent – is this still useful?
Yes, the light version. You may not service the boiler, but alarms, filters, seals and reporting problems early are a tenant’s best protection – and the dated record proves you did your part if a deposit dispute ever asks.
What if I don’t know how to do a job on the list?
The checklist is a reminder system, not a manual. Tick the box when the job is done or booked, not only when it’s DIY. Half the maintenance battle is remembering the job exists before it becomes urgent – the other half is knowing a good tradesperson’s number.
My house is new – do I still need this?
Especially then. New homes still clog gutters, drain filters and age seals – and warranty paperwork often expects servicing records. Start the history now, while it’s short and the house is still forgiving.
How do I handle jobs that don’t fit the seasons?
Write them in the notes lines with their own month, and add them to whichever season’s box has room next year. The seasons are a sorting habit, not a law. Your home maintenance checklist printable is ready below in both A4 and US Letter.
